Have you been watching Richard Wilson’s drive through Britain in a vintage Austin Cambridge?  This week he arrives in our area.  He explains why many consider the Wye Valley to be the place where British tourism started and explores some of the mysteries of the Forest including freeminers and sheep!  The tour ends at an iconic viewpoint – Symonds Yat.

Friday 5 June, 10 pm on BBC2.

A couple of weeks ago a very “well to do” couple come into our tearoom. They were on their way into Wales, to the place they always go to at this time of year. What was different this year is they’d decided to come via the Royal Forest of Dean & the Wye Valley for one reason only – they had watched Richard Wilson’s TV programme in which he drove through the area in a vintage car. They thought the TV programme had made it look so beautiful, that they felt they had to come and drive the same routes as Mr. Wilson. They’ll be coming this way en route to their Welsh holiday spot ever year from now on.
