If you are not doing on Sunday 28th February at 18.00 make sure you watch Countryfile. If you are busy, make sure you record the programme. Matt Baker and Julia Bradbury will be visiting our part of the word, the Forest of Dean and the Wye Valley, a dramatic limestone gorge where Wales meets England. Full details of the programme.
The Wye Valley is home to some of the most outstanding native woodlands in Britain, and Julia takes to the water to explore the picturesque landscape that earned the Wye its reputation as the birthplace of British tourism including searching for bats at the Eagles Nest viewpoint near Chepstow.
Matt Baker goes underground at Clearwell Caves with Ray and Jonathan Wright to learn about, and mine for, ochre. Ochre is still used as a pigment in painting and it was taken to Taurus Crafts in Lydney where local artist Kathy Lewis actually used it for painting. Afterwards the team go into the forest hunting for wild boar.
