Gloucestershire based commercial kitchen company Target Catering Equipment has just helped the Forest of Dean’s Speech House Hotel win a prestigious green business award. Target’s innovative induction cooking equipment helped the family-run luxury hotel and restaurant win Green Business of the Year 2013 in The Forester’s prestigious annual awards and further its objectives as a green business.
Early in 2013, the Speech House, a long established landmark on the Forest of Dean hospitality landscape, won incentivised investment as a green business after assessment by Business West. One recommendation was to replace an energy-hungry existing LPG-fuelled kitchen with new cooking equipment.
After approaching Target Catering Equipment for advice, the hotel’s management team chose bespoke induction cooking equipment. The installation included new induction ranges and a Quick Therm Salamander rise-and-fall grill.
As well as replacing LPG gas at The Speech House Hotel, the new cooking equipment reduces ambient temperatures in the kitchen. This means that costly-to-run electric extraction fans and an unsightly, high-maintenance, ventilation stack (required to meet Gas Safety requirements) can now be dispensed with. The hotel’s already-high food quality, as well as speed and flexibility of restaurant service, have also been enhanced.
The installation of Target Catering’s bespoke induction cooking equipment is part of the hotel’s strategy to be a greener, more efficient, sustainable business. The new kitchen is one of several green upgrades that have made the Speech House a must-visit showpiece for UK and overseas commercial kitchen operators wanting to see best-practice in environmentally-friendly luxury hospitality.
Target Catering Equipment’s new induction kitchen shows how cost savings from the latest technology can release resources for reinvestment while reducing hotels’ carbon footprints. By specialising in bespoke induction cooking installations, Target is going against an observed trend for many small to medium commercial kitchen installers to cling resolutely to old-tech.
Speaking after completing the project and the recent presentation of the hotel’s green business award Target Catering Equipment’s managing director David Pedrette said:
‘As well as transforming operations and reducing its costs with our induction cooking equipment, The Speech House Hotel has become a great showpiece for the contribution that induction cooking can make to business-greening plans. Our installation has helped the hotel save money, stay true to its eco-friendly strategy and deliver enhanced guest satisfaction. It’s a great result all round.’
