For the perfect way to entertain your little history hunters this summer holiday, look no further than Goodrich Castle in Herefordshire. Take the whole family to the English Heritage run Castle for a summer packed with time-travelling adventures to inspire young minds. They can let their imaginations run wild as they hone their knightly skills, learn to curtsey like a medieval princess, and discover what life was like in a castle under siege – all at a real medieval castle.
Throughout the summer holidays there is a packed programme of events which will see Goodrich’s past come to life in the grounds. The highlight of the season will see a troupe of Fighting Knights visit the castle on 15 and 16 August. Offering a mix of pageantry, excitement and action this family friendly event will give a real taste of the fearsome battles which took place in medieval times. It will be every man for himself as two of the realms finest fighting knights compete to be crowned victorious. Budding young knights can see if they have what it takes to challenge the champions as they try on armour and hone their combat skills.
Throughout August there will also be a different time travelling adventure for kids to enjoy every Monday and Tuesday. Designed especially for children these events are the perfect way for your little history hunters to get hands on with the past throughout the holidays. First up on 3 & 4 August a cast of suspected rotters and dastardly deeds will come under the spotlight in Trial & Punishment. This light-hearted look at justice from yesteryear will put you at the heart of the action as you help the judge to make his verdict. Are they guilty or not-guilty? Young jurors decide!
Be transformed into courtly Lord or Ladies on 10 & 11 August when you sign up to the Knights and Princesses Academy. With tips on everything from curtsies to combat this will be the perfect way to start your own fairy-tale adventure. To experience the thrill and fear of a castle under siege, join up to the Siege Challenge for Kids on 17 & 18 August. Junior warriors will discover how to defend a castle under siege, as they build their very own mini trebuchet and knock out opponents in a fun filled challenge. The summer comes to a close on 24 & 25 August with Good King, Bad King, Sad King, a fun look at what makes a King or Queen great. What sort of Royal will your little history hunter be?
