Wales is renowned worldwide for its literature and poetry, and this summer you will be able to experience the best of Welsh tale spinning. Listen to stories based on historical characters, legends and myths from across Wales. Drop in to listen to a story based on Welsh culture and heritage.

Coleford Busking Festival 

Now in its 5th year, the Coleford Busking Festival will be taking over the town on the 4th June. Expect music over every genre you can imagine on the main stage and on the squares and streets of Coleford.

Welsh Wine Week

Welsh Wine Week starts on Sat. 28th May and runs until Sun. 5th June and is a great time to visit your local vineyard. Parva Farm Vineyard at Tintern, near Chepstow is putting on some special things to make your vineyard visit even more enjoyable.

There is a free vineyard tour and this now has some interesting art works to discover as well as learning all about growing grapes in Wales. There is free wine tasting of Parva Farm’s award winning wines in the farm’s shop and you will be able to meet the owners, Colin & Judith, who will be happy to answer any questions you have about vines and Welsh wine.

On Sunday 29th & Monday 30th May & Sunday 5th June from 11.30am until 2.30pm, Ann Churchill will be giving a spinning demonstration and there will be sheep to meet too!

The vineyard will be open from 11.30am until 5.30pm every day during Welsh Wine Week so why not come along and find out all about Welsh wine.

‘Live on the Wye’ is a thriving community festival with big ambitions, set against the stunning backdrop of the Wye Valley and bordering the beautiful Forest of Dean and attracting up and coming bands across all music genres from Wales and beyond.  C

Open Farm Sunday

A unique opportunity for young and old alike to discover, at first-hand, what it’s like to be a farmer and see where your food actually comes from.

Soak up the magnificent surroundings overlooking the banks of the Severn estuary, experience the sights and sounds of the farmyard and get close up to the animals. You’ll even be able to watch the cows being milked in the milking parlour.

See tractors, machinery and equipment that we use on the farm today as well as displays of vintage farm machinery from years gone by.

So come and feed your senses on a working family farm, just 400 yards from Hanley Farm Shop, on Open Farm Sunday 5th June, 10am – 4pm.

Farm tours and tractor & trailer rides taking place throughout the day.

Arts in the Marches

Arts in The Marches are delighted to be working in collaboration with Taurus Crafts on a second “Summer of Sculpture”.

In 2015 we established the first joint sculpture exhibitions, featuring the work of sculptors from Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Worcestershire and the Welsh Borders.

adminupload_574481641f154petleyReturning sculptors include Caro Burberry, (bronze resin) Diane Ree,(3D portraits)  Victoria Westaway (willow) and Ardyn Griffyn, this time with her papier mach birds, plus blacksmith Stephen McRaewith his kinetic steel sculptures and Alan Richardson who presents a new array of eccentric driftwood items.

This year we are joined by three new established blacksmith’s Claudia Petley and Paul Shepherd and DavidPreston; plus new comer Sandrina Gay who is exhibiting her enchanting copper works for the first time.   Di Philipson’s fused glass and Frances Warren’s work made from recycled materials “not just a load of old junk” will also be on display.

The exhibition runs from May 28th until October 2nd, at various locations around Taurus Crafts; including the courtyard, garden, Wonderpod Garden, and the café.

Longhope Open Gardens
The village of Longhope, in the Forest of Dean will once again be supporting The National Gardens Scheme (NGS) to raise money for charity.  Longhope is sited in a valley with wonderful views of May Hill and surrounding countryside.

There are four gardens open for visitors to explore and they can enjoy a delightful afternoon visiting the gardens, wandering through the village and stopping off for homemade tea, cakes and plant sales.

Each garden has its own planting style and offers offers something for everyone whether you are looking for inspiration for your own garden or just want to enjoy walking and sitting in a beautiful surroundings.

There is ample parking in the village and in the orchard at Chessgrove Cottage.  Admission price £5 (children under 16 free) which covers entry to all four gardens, just follow the yellow NGS signs around Longhope on the open days.
