To help local residents to get into the spirit of the Tour of Britain cycle race which is set to come through the Forest of Dean on September 8th, Coleford’s Deputy Mayor Nick Penny has launched a 1350 mile cycle challenge to coincide with the On Your Bike festival taking place over the coming month.
The challenge will be completed on an exercise bike which will initially be located in the Coleford Tourist Information Centre which is open from 10am – 4pm Monday to Saturday and 11am and 2pm on Sunday’s. Anyone wishing to contribute to the challenge is welcome to turn up and add some miles to the log.
Nick said ”the significance of the distance is that it is the total return mileage between the towns of Coleford in the Forest of Dean and Saint-Hilaire-de-Riez in the Vendee region of France so it seemed fitting to launch it with the Mayor’s of both towns taking a turn on the saddle immediately following the signing of the twinning agreement on the 5th August in Saint-Hilaire-de-Riez. If cycling isn’t your thing then please still feel free to show your support by dropping a donation into the Tourist Information Centre for the Great Western Air Ambulance Charity.”
