A to Z of the DeanWye: X is for…

X Marks the Centre Spot

Speech House is considered the Centre of the forest.  It is now a hotel, but originally it was built as a Royal Hunting Lodge in 17th Century.  The Verderers’ Court is still held at Speech House, one of the area’s most famous landmarks.

Xtreme Mountain Biking

Forest of Dean provides opportunity for both novice and experienced mountain bikers.  Trails are graded green (easy), blue (moderate) and Red (difficult), Black (Severe) and Orange (extreme). There are a number of routes for the experienced down-hill riders with names like Ski Run, Corkscrew and The Good The Bad and The Ugly.
