On 19th March 2017 the Tourist Information Centre in Coleford celebrated its first birthday. The service which is run by Coleford Town Council is fully staffed by an enthusiastic and dedicated team of thirty volunteers. The Centre is open 6 days a week and Sundays during bank holiday weekends as well as through July and August.
7351 visitors have made use of the wide range of leaflets and information available and have been grateful for the expertise of the team who between them have worked over 3200 hours in the first year.
Visitors from as far away as Australasia, America and Europe have complimented the Centre. Mr David Young of New York, USA commented, “Staff were very helpful and friendly, thank you for a brilliant service.”
“Time flies when you’re being brilliant, and that’s just what our fabulous TIC team in Coleford are – in a time when tourist information provision is reducing, it is great to see this service in the Forest of Dean and we are certainly reaping the rewards’ said Maureen McAllister, Executive Director at Wye Valley and Forest of Dean Tourism. “The work of Coleford Town Council and their team in the TIC is an exemplar for other destinations and we are delighted to work so closely with them as key partners in our activities”
Councillor Nick Penny added, “The Town Council and myself have been overwhelmed by the reaction to the services we provide. We are particularly delighted to have now created a part time role to co ordinate the team and ensure the ongoing delivery of the service. We are proud to welcome Ella Beard to this position.”
