The Forest of Dean and Wye Valley will kick off the 2017 holiday season with an English Tourism Week (ETW) celebration of the area’s vibrant tourism offer.
Wye Valley and Forest of Dean Tourism, which represents 350 local businesses, predicts a bumper year for its members after VisitEngland forecast a rise in both visitor numbers and tourism spending in 2017.
During ETW, which runs from 25 March to 2 April, locals and visitors will be encouraged to sample what’s great about the area – sometimes for free.
As an incentive, the best image or activity shared on social media using the #DeanWye and #ETW17 hashtags will win a very special VIP break in the Forest of Dean and Wye Valley. The #DeanWye VIP weekend includes accommodation, meals, entry to attractions and activities for two people.
Forest of Dean and Wye Valley Tourism has brought together its members to promote a week of free or discounted activities, which include:
- Discounted gourmet pies from the Farmers Boy Inn
- Discounted accommodation at Dean Cottages and Mad Dogs and Vintage Vans
- Discounted cases of cider from Ty Gwyn Cider
- Reduced prices at Taurus Crafts
Maureen McAllister, Executive Director for Wye Valley and Forest of Dean Tourism, says: “We have such brilliant activities and attractions in the #DeanWye and this event allows locals to showcase the fantastic things on their doorstep to a global audience by sharing great pictures and experiences.
“We predict that 2017 will be a bumper year for tourism for our attractions, accommodation and outdoor activities providers, and food producers. Tourism in the Forest of Dean contributes £141.5 million to the local economy and it’s vital that local people share their love of the area on social media to draw in visitors from the UK and beyond.”
